Resources on Virtue and Freedom
This page is concerned with the third of four pillars of intellectual evangelization, addressing the mythical conflict between the teachings of Christ and moral relativism. As noted on our homepage, many of our young people (and adults) have come to believe, at least partially, in this secular myth which may be stated as follows: “Jesus Christ and the Church impose a bunch of rules and ‘should nots’ on all of us, but there are many other viewpoints that allow for more freedom and personal opinion. Why should I follow the teachings of Christ and the Church instead of these other viewpoints – which seem equally valid?”
This secular myth does not stand up to a philosophical assessment of virtue and love (particularly in light of the revelation of Jesus Christ). The evidence we present is quite compelling, and can maintain, defend, and advance the faith of people who may be influenced by this myth.
